CARDINIA WATERS – CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Ray Naylor and Kerry Lewis have been crowned singles champions at Cardinia Waters Bowls Club after the men’s and women’s singles finals were played in warm, sunny conditions on Sunday.

In the women’s event, Lewis was up against last year’s winner Del Dance.

Both ladies played good bowls, but the form player was Kerry, who powered away to a comfortable win.

Kerry now has emulated her husband Keith, who won the men’s event last year.

After standing out of bowls last year through illness it was very satisfying to see Kerry back bowling this season, and finding good form as well.

In the men’s event, the doyen of bowling John Van Vugt was up against his pennant teammate Naylor.

Van Vugt has won more bowls trophies than he can count over an illustrious career spanning many decades.

Despite his age he still plays bowls most days of the week.

However Naylor, who normally plays third to the master bowler, was in impeccable form on Sunday, and took control of the game early.

He maintained his lead for a comfortable 25-14 victory.

Ray previously won this event in 2020.
