Nobelius on fire at the Creek

DEEP CREEK GOLF

Rain gauges were bursting at the seams around Pakenham on Thursday but Deep Creek Golf Club coped with the rain well and was in good condition for Saturday’s Par competition.

Club president Rob Nobelius has been a constant at the top of the leaderboards of late and continued his impressive form with a brilliant five-shot win on Saturday.

Nobelius, playing off a handicap of 14, signed off on a score of +4 to earn the day’s top prize.

Dean Jones was closest of the chasing pack, finishing the day on -1, while Stephen Northcott, John Curtin and Geoff Percival all ended their rounds with scores of -2.

Andrew Hale nailed the nearest the pin on the 16th (3.28m).

Some good golf was played early last week at Deep Creek with Levi Sua (11) scoring 34 points for a countback Monday victory over David McMahon (12).

Three players were just one shot further back, with Chris Dalton, Stewart MacDonald and Mick Boyd scoring 33 points to earn balls down the line, along with Les Jones, Phillip Mott and Stephen Northcott on 32 points.

Nearest the pins went to: 2nd: Levi Sua (5m) and on the 16th: Pat Ellerton (1.45m).

The October Mid-Week Monthly Medal went up for grabs on Wednesday with Stewart MacDonald (25) scoring 38 points to take home the sought-after prize.

MacDonald finished runner up in B Grade to Beaconhills visitor Rohan Mostert, but secured the medal with Mostert ineligible for the medal due to Deep Creek not being his home club.

Mostert had a day to remember, scoring a mammoth 47 points, off his handicap of 24, to defeat MacDonald by nine shots.

Rob Nobelius (15) was once again the pre-eminent A Grade player on the course, scoring 38 points to win his division, but narrowly lose the medal on a countback to MacDonald.

Neville Taylor (17) was runner up to Nobelius in A Grade with 35 points.

Down the lines went to Ronald Zomer 37, Ron Seamer 34, Heath Barclay 34, Anthony Kemsley 32, Tom McDermott 32, David McMahon 32 and Bill McDonald 32.

The SuperComp Back 9 winner was MacDonald (25) with 20 points.

Nearest the pins went to: 2nd: Anthony Kemsley (0.40m) and 16th: David McMahon (3.16m).
