DEEP CREEK GOLF
It was a very quiet week on the fairways of Deep Creek Golf Club with early Spring rains refusing to clear and give golfers the opportunity to find some consistent form.
Very small fields competed on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday, with no competition being held on Sunday.
Only nine players completed their rounds in Saturday’s stableford event, with the persistent rains keeping many of the regular golfers safely tucked away in bed.
But for one golfer, the rise was certainly worth the effort.
Maddison Selleck (39) seemed to relish the wet conditions, firing a great score of 39 points to win the day’s competition by a very impressive six shots.
Selleck finished well clear of Mark Hatton, who scored 33 points to finish runner-up, defeating Rob McCrae on a countback.
Marcus Cameron also collected a ball down the line with 32 points and won the nearest the pin on the second hole with a shot to 5.1 metres.
Noel Bonne won nearest the pin on the 16th with a shot to seven metres of the hole.
The golfing week kicked off with another impressive display, with Tony Sheahan (15) scoring 38 points to race away with Monday’s stableford event.
Chris Dalton and Levi Sua scored 32 points to claim balls down the line, while Sheahan capped off a formidable day at the office by striking his iron approach to 1.2 metres on the 16th.
President Rob Nobelius (14) has been quietly going about his work of late, and continued his fine recent form with a winning round in Wednesday’s mid-week stableford event.
Nobelius scored 38 points to record a two-shot victory over Chris Dalton (23), with Gregory Parsons, Tom McDermott, Michael Banger and John Curtin all in the prizemoney after competitive rounds of 35 points.
Nobelius won the SuperComp Back 9 with 22 points, while nearest the pin went to Michael Banger (4.6m) on the 16th.
The club is hoping for some good weather this week ahead of a busy four days of golf, with public holidays on Thursday and Friday followed by the regular traffic on the weekend.
