DEEP CREEK GOLF
There was a little bit of everything at Deep Creek Golf Club over the last week with persistent winter rains clearing into beautiful blue skies for the appreciative weekend players.
A strong field greeted the starter for Saturday’s stableford event with the rapidly improving Steely Mateariki (9) enjoying the sun in his back, scoring 39 points to take out the A Grade event.
Glenn Rees (10) has had a consistent run through winter, and he signed off on the last weekend before spring with 37 points to finish runner up to Mateariki.
The name Jared Bester (24) has also been a common theme on leaderboards, and his 35 points was good enough to win B Grade on a countback from Brenton Hollingworth (27).
Down the lines went to Leon Mateariki and Grant Wilson 35, Jarrod Leontini 34, Colin Crowle, Geoff Percival, Alex Blanck, Murray O’Dwyer and Brian Webster 33, and Graham Brennan with 32 points.
Nearest the Pins: 2nd Hole: Grant Wilson (70cm) and 16th Hole: Michael Banger (3m).
A small field of players braved the elements of Monday with Heath Barclay (9) being the only player to work through the 30-point barrier to claim the top prize for the day.
Barclay’s 30 points was two clear of down the line winners Ron Parsons, Phillip Mott, Stephen Northcott, Phillip Tunstall and Bobby Edwards.
Nearest The Pins: 2nd: Rex Ryan (5.80m) and 16th: Phillip Mott (5.10m).
Wednesday and Thursday saw the worst of the weather conditions with no competition rounds being played.
The Ladies seem to be copping the brunt of the bad weather lately with their Thursday competition abandoned for the second week running.
Sunday’s stableford competition saw another big win for Heath Barclay (9), who made it two for the week by scoring 33 points to walk away with the glory.
Harry Elyasie (5) was runner up with 31 points while Glenn Rees was the sole down the line winner with 30 points.
This week will see a Par competition held on Wednesday before Monthly Medals go on the line for the ladies on Thursday and the mixed competition on Saturday.
