Finals preparation for Pies and Pakky

OUTER EAST PREVIEW

Narre Warren makes the toughest trip in the Outer East this Saturday when it heads up the hill to take on Wandin.

The Magpies go in clear favourites, but Wandin off a loss and on its own patch is far from an easy task.

Narre Warren coach Shane Dwyer spoke during the week about the contest ahead.

“I was watching a bit of their game before,” he said.

“The beauty of playing sides a second time is you’ve actually played them, and you know what to expect a little bit more.

“We know what they’ve got, they’ve got a good full-forward and a good midfield, and that ground.

“I think we were the only old SEFNL side that won up there a couple years ago in 2019, it’s so small.

“We will just talk about how to play it and figure it out, they’re obviously very hard to beat at home.

“I remember in 2019 it was a pretty hostile environment, but it wouldn’t be much different to the Monbulk environment.

“The boys will just take it on and hopefully get the chocolates.”

The last time the two sides met, it was a 10-goal victory to the Maggies.

Pakenham, meanwhile, has a finals like contest this weekend, when it welcomes Olinda Ferny Creek.

The Lions need to win to keep in touch with the Bloods and the top five.

Less than a kick separated the two sides the last time they met, and the importance of this match hasn’t escaped Lions coach Ash Green.

“We have some really good opposition coming up, Olinda Ferny Creek on the weekend… it’s basically a mini-final for us,” he said.

“The destiny is in our hands, and if we play well the scoreboard will look after itself., if it doesn’t, then the pressure is back on us.”
