Monthly Medal win for Banger

DEEP CREEK GOLF CLUB

A stableford competition – not stroke – was used to find a winner of the July Monthly Medal at Deep Creek Golf Club on Saturday and Michael Banger was the player to emerge victorious.

Banger, playing off his handicap of 27, was the only player to break his handicap, scoring 37 points to win the medal and C Grade as well.

Runner up to Banger in C Grade was Graeme Steel (29) with 36 points, the same score that was good enough to win A and B Grade as well.

A Grade winner was Anthony Franzi (12) with 36 points, one shot clear of Harry Elyasie (4) on 35.

The sweet-swinging Barry Williams (19) won B Grade with 36 points, also a shot clear of club president Rob Nobelius (15). Watch out Barry, defeating the president might see your fees about to rise!

Balls down the line went to Shane Wilkinson, Les Jones, Marcus Cameron and Levi Sua with 35 points and to Noel Boyd, Brian Webster, Matthew Hogan, Glenn Rees, Terry Bull and Brett McGee with 34 points.

Nearest the pins went to 2nd Hole: Glenn Rees (4.28m) and 16th Hole: Frankie Chiu (1.3m).

The golfing week began all the way back on Monday of last week with a Par competition proving a tough battle for most of the assembled field.

Stephen Northcott (19) was the winner with a score of -2, one shot clear of Heath Barclay (9) on -3.

Down the lines went to Noel Bonne -4, and Tom McDermott and Glenn Charles -5.

Nearest the pins went 2nd Hole: Tony Sheahan (5.10m) and 16th Hole: Tony Penney (4.70m).

Beautiful winter conditions greeted players for Wednesday’s stableford event with two terrific scores being handed in on the day.

A Grade was extremely hotly contested with Heath Barclay (9) scoring 40 points to win by two shots from Chris McConnell (15) on 38 points.

Kevin Sutton (33) won B Grade with 35 points on a countback from John Kingman (21).

Down the lines went to Ross Maclean 36, John Curtin 35, Graeme Steel, Michael Banger, Timothy Pratt, Terry Bull and Noel Bonne with 34 points and to Noel Boyd, Brett McGee and David Bell on 33.

The SuperComp Front 9 winner was Heath Barclay with 21 points while nearest the pins went to 2nd Hole: Frankie Chiu (5.00m) and 16th Hole: John Curtin (3.11m).

The ladies saddled up for a stableford event on Thursday with Kay Jones (29) defeated all-comers with 32 points to take home the main prize.

Down the lines went to Marg Andrews and Leah Barker with 28 points and nearest the pins went to 2nd Hole: Carol Beard (1.75m) and 16th Hole: Kay Jones (1.67m).

And the golfing week ended in very familiar fashion with Nick Gray (5) proving his love for the Sunday events by scoring 40 points to win by two shots from Shaun Hegarty (20) on 38.

Down the lines went to Steely Mateariki 36, Kelsey Davies 34, and Matt Hogan and Leon Mateariki with 33 points.

This week will see a Par competition held on Wednesday, the ladies medal day on Thursday, before a stableford competition takes place on Saturday.
