A windy day greeted players at Drouin Golf Club on Saturday with a field of 81 players taking part in a stableford event.

Shane Dehaan was the only player to better his handicap, winning B Grade with an impressive score of 38 points.

Next best score for the day was 35 points going to Eric Robbins who won C Grade.

A Grade was a close contest with Peter Smith winning on a count back with 34 points.

Down the lines went to Mark Klaver and John Wise 34, Ray Haley and Gary Burns 33, and to Michael Lithgow, Ben Jeffrey and John Piner with 32 points.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Chris Perry, 8th Joe Kirby, 10th Phil Thomson and 14th Peter Smith.

Stroud Trophy

The final of the Stroud Trophy was played last Saturday in a 4BBB Match Play format with Ken Cooper and Joe Kirby up against Stan Gajdobranski and Peter Phillips.

Stan and Peter jumped out of the blocks early and managed to maintain a lead all day and take the trophy with a 5 and 4 win.

A field of 49 players teed it up in a Par competition on Wednesday.

Allan Logan recovered from a slow start to finish with the best score for the day and win A Grade with +3.

The going was tough in B Grade with only one player beat their handicap. Luke Vanderlight was the player in question scoring +2 to be four shots clear of the next best.

Down the lines went to Peter Mitchell +2, Mark Klaver and David McCaan +1 and Brian Seers all square.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Marc Alberts, 8th Brian Seers, 10th Gilbert Davis and 14th Peter Mitchell.

The events this week see the July’s Monthly Medal being contested on Saturday and a stableford competition on Wednesday.

DROUIN LADIES

Drouin ladies played for the June Monthly Medal, sponsored by Drouin Home Timber and Hardware.

Conditions were tough with winter golf in full swing!

The winner of the Stroke event was Anne Neilson (19) with an 80 nett.

Best scratch round was Kay Feaver (14) with 95 off the stick.

Susie Menzel (30) earned a ball down the line for her 82 nett, on a countback.

Nearest the pins went to 5th Anne Neilson, 8th Kay Grieve and 14th Susie Menzel.

No-one managed to get on the 10th.

Saturday’s ladies played stableford with Anne-Marie Lang (18) winning the event with 32 points.

This week is a Canadian Foursomes event and next Tuesday will be a stroke event, playing for the July Monthly Medal.
