Lyriq Bester breezes to victory

DEEP CREEK GOLF

Breezy conditions greeted players at Deep Creek Golf Club for the last Saturday competition for June.

An eager field competed in a Par event with some fantastic scores being carded in B and C Grade in particular.

The A Grade result was decided via a countback, with Suzanne Van Strien (10) finishing 1-up to win from runner-up Craig Clissold (13) on the same score.

In B Grade, John Hutcheon (14) and Mark Stewart (14) were both in fabulous form with Hutcheon signing off on a great score of 5-up to win by one shot from the unlucky Stewart.

The Bester family were unstoppable in C Grade with Lyriq Bester (23) matching Hutcheon’s score of 5-up to win by three shots from Jarred Bester (25) on 2-up.

Down the lines went to Brenton Hollingworth and Anthony Kemsley, who both finished square with the card, with balls also going to Delanie Lewis -1, Michael Banger, Harry Elyasie, Glenn Rees, Brian Webster and Levi Sua -2 and to Dean Jones, Shane Wilkinson, David Mair, Andrew Heagney, Bryan Clydesdale, Mark Hatton, Michael Anlanger and Graham Brennan -3.

Nearest the pin’s went to: 2nd Hole: Craig Clissold (7m) and 16th Hole: Stephen Northcott (1.1m).

The golfing week began last Monday with several teams coming together for a fun and exciting Ambrose event, with teams of four testing their best shots against the rest.

The winning team, with a score of 60.375, was Dave Lummis, Chris Dalton, Tony Sheahan and Tom McDermott who had a clear margin over runners up Frankie Chiu, John Kingman, Harry Bolotin and Angie Peluso on a score of 62.250.

Balls down the line went to the team of Rex Ryan, Ron Seamer, Tony Penney and Glenn Charles with a score of 62.875.

Wednesday’s stableford competition provided the perfect platform for Harry Elyasie (3) to continue his great recent run of form, scoring 39 points to win A Grade by an impressive four shots from runner-up Murray O’ Dwyer (14).

Bill McDonald (22) also had a comfortable win in B Grade, scoring 39 points to win by three shots from runner-up Ross Stewart (20).

Down the lines were hard earned and went to Tony Sheahan with 35 points, Doug Barrot 34 and to David Bell, Roger Parker, Michael Banger, Stephen Northcott, David McMahon, Frankie Chiu and Tony Vallance with 33 points.

Elyasie also won the Super-Comp Back 9 with 22 points while nearest the pin went to Michael Banger on the 16th (9.50m).

The ladies hit the course on Thursday for a stableford event and some solid scores were carded on a course that is slowly losing its run.

Delanie Lewis (13) survived a countback with Leanne Barker (28) to win with 34 points, with down the lines going to Suzanne Van Strien 33, Leah Barker 32 and Kay Jones 31.

Nearest the pins (2nd shot) went to 2nd Hole: Delanie Lewis (2.20m) and 16th Hole: Suzanne van Strien (0.38m).

And the golfing week came to a wet conclusion on Sunday with a small field of players taking part in a stableford event.

Nick Gray (5) scored 34 points to win by five shots from Glenn Rees (9) on 29 points, with Brett Nowlan (13) third on 27.

Gray produced the highlight of his round on the par-fourth eighth hole…having an eagle on the short dogleg right.
