Snipers just miss their target

The stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to the South West Gippsland Darts League (SWGDL) with the top two teams playing out a thriller at the Kooweerup Hotel last Tuesday.

The home team – the undefeated Just Social – were pushed to the limits by second-placed Snipers, winning 8-7 in a great precursor to this year’s finals series.

The Snipers two big guns, Aaron and Dean, quite literally threw everything at the ladder-leaders, throwing seven tons each on the night, but it wasn’t enough to knock Just Social off their game.

Just Social narrowly got across the line, with Pez and Terry throwing some big darts at crucial stages of the match.

This year’s finals series looks set to be a beauty!

The main challenger to the top two looks like being the Warriors who trounced another finals contender, Rebels, 11-4 in a surprisingly one-sided contest.

The Warriors lost several games earlier in the year by the narrowest of margins, but have shown all season they have what it takes to compete strongly with the big boys.

The big win assures the Warriors of a finals berth with two rounds left in the season.

The Rebels are now under pressure to stay in fourth position after fifth-placed Paky One had an 11-4 victory over Middels.

With Paky One likely to win its round 13 clash against bottom-placed Mud Rats, and Rebels likely to lose to Just Social, it should come down to the last game of the season to determine who play finals.

Paky One host the Rebels in round 14 at the Cardinia Club on Tuesday 17 May.

In the other game this week, Gembrook chalked up its third victory of the season with a 9-6 victory over Mud Rats.

Spectators and darts enthusiasts are most welcome to attend the last two rounds of competition and this year’s finals series.
