The Pakenham Football Club is mourning the loss of one of its most devoted and respected volunteers, ‘Colonel’ Tom Parker, who passed away peacefully on Sunday evening aged 96.
Mr Parker’s long and treasured association with the Lions began after a chance meeting at ‘Uncle’ Graham Treloar’s barber shop.
Known for his quiet dedication and willingness to help wherever needed, Mr Parker became a familiar and trusted presence on game days.
“From his many hours spent on the BBQ on game days, to putting up and taking down goal post padding, and even looking after playing gear as property steward, there was no job Tom wouldn’t put his hand up for,” the club wrote on social media.
Beyond match-day duties, Mr Parker also played a significant role behind the scenes, contributing to the club’s social committee and fundraising efforts. Alongside his late wife Val, he donated the original plaque for the club’s Best Club Person award.
Both Tom and Val were awarded Life Membership, the highest honour bestowed by the club, yet remained actively involved long after, always ready to lend a hand and proudly cheering on the Lions.
“Tom was a wonderful person both in and out of the walls of the Pakenham Football Club,” the club wrote.
“A one eyed supporter who loved to watch his boys play Footy, he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
“We send our deepest condolences and sympathies to Tom’s Family, may he rest easy.”
