Emergency services responded to a “suspicious” car fire at Pakenham Upper, at around 2pm this afternoon, causing temporary traffic disruptions for motorists.
Three CFA units alongside FRV and Victoria Police were initially dispatched to the scene after a Holden Rodeo utility was set alight on Gordons Road about 2pm. Firefighters worked quickly to bring the blaze under control, and the incident has since been declared under control at 2.06pm and safe at 2.11pm.
CFA resources have since been scaled back, with two trucks remaining on site to monitor the area and ensure there is no further risk.
Despite the fire being extinguished, a strong smell of smoke continues to linger in the area. The burnt-out vehicle remains on Gordon Road, partially blocking the road and causing minor traffic delays.
Motorists are advised to proceed with caution and consider alternative routes where possible while emergency crews manage the scene and arrangements are made to remove the vehicle. No injuries have been reported.
Police say fire is believed to be suspicious and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
Anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area, with dashcam/CCTV footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
