Suspect caught after good Samaritan alerts police

Cardinia Eyewatch reports a 45-year-old man in a stolen car collided with another vehicle in Pakenham earlier this week, injuring a teenage boy who was sent to hospital with injuries.

The offender fled the scene and requested a lift home from a nearby resident. After dropping the offender home, the good samaritan noticed several police units in the area; suspicious of the offender’s behaviour, he notified police of his good deed.

Police attended the offender’s home a short time later. Entering under Section 459a of the Crime Act, police surprised the offender as he was washing his dishes and took him into custody.

The offender was charged with several offences and is on bail to attend court in 2026.
