Neighbourhood Watch closer to launch

Officer residents took decisive steps to strengthen community safety at the Neighbourhood Watch and Community Safety meeting on Tuesday, 18 November.

The second meeting marked a proactive, community-led approach to safety, showing the community moving from concern to action.

Residents discussed leadership roles, neighbourhood-specific safety strategies, and explored ways to connect neighbours with each other and local authorities.

Practical initiatives included street-level communication networks, raising awareness of Police Assistance Line and Crime Stoppers, and registering home CCTV to support rapid response.

Cardinia Local Area Commander Scott Brennan said “it is always valuable to speak directly to the community about the work police are doing to keep them safe”.

“We were also able to share the many ways the community can help us help them,” he said.

“That includes always locking the doors and windows of your home and cars and removing valuables from plain sight.

“We will continue to work with our local stakeholders to prevent crime and boost safety. The more we work together, the safer the community will be.

Cardinia Shire Council Cr Samantha-Jane Potter praised another strong local turnout at the second meeting to establish a Neighbourhood Watch group for Officer Ward.

“Strong communities grow from connection and looking out for each other,” she shared on social media.

“These initiatives only work when people get involved. Your participation, kindness, and community spirit are what make Officer such a great place to live. So, come along to the next one!”

Special attendance at the meeting included Cardinia Local Area Commander Inspector Scott Brennan, Senior Constable Tom Walton, organisers Colin Moore and Lauren Bourke, as well as local businesses MMG Security and AJ Security Screens and Doors.

Residents interested in joining or supporting the Officer Neighbourhood Watch are encouraged to contact Neighbourhood Watch Victoria or watch for announcements about upcoming workshops and volunteer opportunities.
