After waiting until he was finally old enough to be allowed on the runway, 16-year-old Beaconhills student Ashton Moldovan-Plumridge made his Melbourne Fashion Week debut, walking for leading menswear label Justin Cassin at the World Trade Centre Docklands on 24 October.
Justin Cassin’s Spring/Summer 26 show was Ashton’s first major runway opportunity after reaching the minimum age requirement of 16.
He walked alongside 19 professional models from across Australia, including Big Brother winner Chad Hurst, with approximately 2000 people watching on.
The showcase brought Cassin’s signature contrasts to the stage, blending classic menswear with contemporary street style.
The label’s designs play with leather, linen and tweed in warm, earthy tones, balancing comfort with confident sophistication.
For Ashton, the moment was a mix of nerves and excitement.
“Initially it was slightly nerve racking especially knowing I was the youngest model,” the Pakenham resident said.
“Once I completed my first walk, my mind was at ease and I was so excited to walk wearing my second outfit.”
Though new to the runway, Ashton is no stranger to the industry. He has been modelling since he was nine months old, after his mum Rachel placed him with an agency because he was “always a happy, smiley baby and didn’t shy away from the camera”.
Since then, Ashton has completed more than 100 modelling jobs, allowing him to save toward his first car, build a strong portfolio and gain valuable industry experience.
“I’ve grown a lot in both confidence and professionalism,” he said.
“I’ve learned how to bring something to a job — personality, expression and movement that align with the brand’s vision.”
He has also become more comfortable taking direction and adapting to different styles, whether that is editorial, runway or commercial work.
The runway debut has only strengthened Ashton’s ambition to pursue modelling on the world stage.
“I definitely feel ready to embrace the International runway market and pursue a career in the International Modelling sector,” he said.
“I am looking at relocating overseas to Europe or America to pursue my modelling career. I will also be studying part time and working casually.”
Ashton’s achievement was celebrated by his school, with a Senior School spokesperson at Beaconhills College’s Pakenham Campus calling it a proud moment for the school community.
“It’s inspiring to see one of our students pursuing his passion with such confidence and professionalism. Ashton’s success is a wonderful example of the diverse talents within our school community, and we look forward to supporting him as he continues to shine.“
