Seniors celebrate in style

Across Victoria, seniors and their families came together in October to enjoy a month of free and low-cost events celebrating the contributions of older community members.

The festival aimed to encourage lifelong learning, foster meaningful connections, and celebrate positive ageing, with events held in local communities.

On 4 October, the Shared Plates, Shared Stories event brought seniors from diverse backgrounds together at Gurdwara Siri Guru Nanak Darbar in Officer.

Attendees shared homemade food and recipes, creating a vibrant community experience that celebrated cultural diversity.

That evening Pakenham Hall came alive with the Seniors Community Dance, featuring a live four-piece band. Seniors enjoyed a mix of old-time, New Vogue, Line, and Rock ’n’ Roll dancing.

Meanwhile in Berwick, High Street hosted a colourful Tamil Music and Dance Concert entertaining crowds with traditional Tamil performances and community lunch.

The celebration continued on 6 October with a guided history tour at Wilsons Botanic Park, where participants explored the park by shuttle and learned about its rich heritage from knowledgeable guides.

The annual Victorian Seniors Festival, held from 1 to 31 October, offers a wide range of activities, from music and dance to workshops, talks, and social gatherings, and will continue across the state throughout the month.
