Youth building futures

A site makeover in Pakenham is giving disadvantaged and disabled youth a chance to gain hands-on trade experience, as DuluxTrade and ColourPro team up with Connecting2Communities (C2C) to provide painting skills, mentorship, and real work opportunities.

The ongoing project provides painting experience, mentorship, and the opportunity to work on real-world projects that make a difference.

C2C, a not-for-profit organisation, supports young people through programs like School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT) and NDIS initiatives, helping them build employability and life skills.

Melissa Lechte, Director of Connecting2Communities, said this collaboration is a prime example of how collaboration can bring about lasting change for young people.

“Through this initiative, the volunteers gain hands-on experience in the painting and decorating industry, equipping them with valuable trade skills that will boost their career prospects.”

C2C empowers youth facing barriers such as financial hardship or disability by providing mentorship and skill-building experiences that open doors to future employment. Lechte added that the project is a model for future collaborations, encouraging more local businesses to get involved and support career pathways for youth.

Community members and businesses can support C2C in several ways:

– Partnerships and Paid Opportunities: Offer work or outsource tasks to provide youth with real experience and fund programs.

– NDIS Choices: Select C2C as a provider for personalised skill-building support.

– Volunteering: Share expertise and mentor youth.

– Donations: Support programs financially (tax deductible).

– Spreading Awareness: Help connect C2C with partners and supporters.

Through initiatives like this, C2C continues building a more inclusive future, equipping local youth with the skills, confidence, and guidance to succeed.
