Q&A with community leader Brijal Parikh

What’s the most rewarding part of your day?

The most rewarding part of my day is making a difference big or small to any individual through my efforts. I find it truly rewarding when I can bring a smile to someone’s face, especially if they’ve been going through a difficult time, whether through a small act of kindness, listening, sharing my knowledge or helping someone overcome a challenge. Knowing that I’ve contributed to making someone’s day a little brighter gives me a deep sense of fulfillment and motivates me to keep giving back.

What’s something you’re currently working on or excited about?

I’m currently working on multiple concurrent projects, but my focus is on fostering an active family environment in the Cardinia Shire community with support of Officer City Soccer Club is introduction of indoor sports like table tennis, badminton, and chess. I’m really excited about this because these activities bring people together, promote healthy lifestyles, and create opportunities for connection and fun.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received, and from whom?

Throughout my journey in community service and professional growth, I’ve been fortunate to receive guidance from many supportive individuals. However, the most impactful advice has come from my parents, my wife Dhwani Parikh, and my brother Nirav Parikh. They instilled in me the importance of believing in myself, reminding me that you never truly know what’s possible until you try—and that failure doesn’t exist, only lessons to be learned. I must also acknowledge my son, Priyansh Parikh, who continually reminds me that knowledge is power. He has taught me the value of perseverance and the importance of sharing what we know with others.

If you weren’t doing what you’re doing now, what would you be doing?

If I weren’t doing what I’m doing now, I believe I would still be engaged in work that involves helping others and making a positive impact. Whether through teaching, or community development, I’m passionate about contributing to people’s growth and well-being. This commitment comes from my own family’s experience during challenging times—thanks to the support of our community, we were able to overcome difficulties. Ultimately, I’d want to be in a role that allows me to support and uplift others in meaningful ways.

If you could effect change in your community, what would it be?

If I could effect change in my community, I would focus on creating more opportunities for connection and well-being through accessible recreational activities and educational programs. I believe everyone has unique skills, and I want to help people recognize their strengths rather than dwell on their weaknesses—so we can all contribute to building a more harmonious world. Promoting physical and mental health by encouraging participation in sports, the arts, and lifelong learning can strengthen community bonds and enhance quality of life for everyone.

My goal is to foster an inclusive environment where every individual feels supported, empowered, and inspired to thrive. There is no place for racism, as we are all human beings deserving of respect, dignity, and equality.

What is something on your bucket list?

One of the things on my bucket list is to do something that makes both my homeland Australia and my motherland India proud of my action. I want to contribute in a way that reflects the values and strengths of both cultures—whether through community service, leadership, or initiatives that assist community to prosper. My family in this journey, as their support and shared values inspire me every day. Creating a lasting, positive impact that honours my roots, uplifts others, and sets an example for future generations is something I deeply aspire to.

What is your biggest accomplishment that you are most proud of?

My biggest accomplishment—and the one I’m most proud of—is my family. Building a strong, supportive, and loving family has been the most rewarding journey of my life. Through every challenge and success, we’ve stood by each other with resilience and care. They inspire me to be my best self every day, and any achievements I’ve had in my personal or professional life are deeply rooted in the strength and values we share as a family.
