Book Week with Pakenham Library Branch Manager Kelly West

What is one book that everyone should read and why?

I think everyone should read the one book that they become totally immersed in. The joy and escapism that a book can provide is second to none. I cannot choose one book that I think everyone should read because its so subjective.

What’s the first book you remember reading?

The first book I remember reading is probably The Magic Faraway Tree. I loved reading anything from Enid Blyton. I can still picture the characters and story lines in my head after all of these years. I couldn’t wait to share these stories with my kids.

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently re-reading The Lady of Hay by Barbara Erskine but have several books on my bedside table…occupational hazard. I also run two book groups so I’m meant to be reading those as well.

What is your favourite thing about reading and why do you think it is so important?

I think its an opportunity to be in the moment, to expand your brain and take on an adventure.
