Repairs begin at Cardinia Life

Cardinia Shire Council has confirmed repairs are underway at Cardinia Life following ongoing community complaints about cold pool water and changeroom temperatures.

Concerns about the 25-metre pool and facilities sparked a petition last month, with residents highlighting how uncomfortable conditions were during winter.

Cr Casey Thomsen clarified that the issue is not due to the temperatures being set “low”.

“The temperatures should be sitting higher than they have been, but technical issues have limited the functionality of the heating equipment, leaving the patrons feeling colder,” Cr Thomsen said.

“Officers are aware the issue also relates to air temperature in the pool hall, which impacts overall patron comfort.

“Officers have been working to find solutions to increase the temperature in the change rooms, the pool, and the pool deck within the centre.”

Council confirmed works underway include compressor valve fixes, filter and motor replacement, and building management system repairs. Replacement of dehumidifier units will also be considered in a future capital works program.

At its August 18 meeting, councillors unanimously voted to support the repair works, promising a more comfortable and enjoyable environment for all Cardinia Life visitors.

Those in favour include Mayor Cr Jack Kowarzik, Deputy Mayor Cr Alanna Pomeroy, Cr Casey Thomsen, Cr Liz Roberts, Cr Brett Owen, Cr Collin Ross, Cr Trudi Paton, Cr Samantha-Jane Potter and Cr David Nickell.

Cr Roberts said the petition showed how urgent it was to act.

“It’s difficult when we have a situation where we’re outgrowing this facility,” Cr Roberts said.

“We’re doing our utmost to keep it going, and we need to ensure that we get these works done so people can feel warm when they’re down there.

“I’m often there with my kids for swimming lessons, so I know what it’s like when you’re standing around trying to help a little kid get changed and they’re shivering, and can’t pay attention because it’s so cold. Let’s hope we can get these works done quickly.”

Cr Brett Owen also thanked the community for their advocacy on this matter, saying it strengthens Council’s push for upgrades at Cardinia Life.

“We need the public to support the council in its advocacy for improved facilities,” Cr Owen said.

“This petition, I believe, will be used as part of the advocacy for ongoing improvements to Cardinia Life.”
