The intersection of Racecourse Road and Bald Hill Road will be closed to traffic on Sunday as Major Road Projects Victoria has hit an important milestone, with crews on the Pakenham Roads Upgrade starting the next phase of works to remove the roundabout.
Project crews have been hard at work relocating underground utilities, including power, water, and gas services, to create space for the new-look signalised intersection.
“We are making great progress on duplicating Racecourse Road and replacing the Racecourse Road and Bald Hill Road roundabout with a signalised intersection,” Major Road Projects Victoria Program Director Brendan Pauwels said.
“In the coming months, if you’re travelling through the area, you’ll see the crews hard at work building the new signalised intersection.”
As part of these works, crews have installed:
-2.5km of new pipes
-23 new drainage pits
-47 kilometres of electrical and communications cabling
-Seven new power poles
When the new signalised intersection opens, it will help improve travel times and increase safety as part of the wider Pakenham Roads Upgrade.
The Racecourse Road and Bald Hill Road intersection will be closed to traffic on Sunday 6 July between 7am and 11.59pm to finish relocating the last of the essential utilities in the area.
Then, from Thursday 10 July to early October, Bald Hill Road will be closed to all traffic on the Webster Way leg of the intersection so works can start on the new signalised intersection.
During this time, access to all local businesses will be maintained.

Once the Racecourse Road Upgrade is complete in early 2027, there will be an extra lane in each direction, two new signalised intersections, and new walking and shared-use paths throughout the area.
