The Pakenham Outdoor Pool will see a $430,000 injection over the next 12 months, thanks to a recent uptick in funding from Cardinia Shire Council.
The much-beloved pool received a dedicated funding of $405,000 for renewal works and $25,000 to maintain the shade structure in the most recent budget for the 2025-26 financial year.
Cheryl Billing-Smith of the Friends of the Pakenham Outdoor Pool said, though the money was a “mosquito bite” on the long-term issues, the increase is nonetheless welcomed.
“We are elated, the fact that the council acknowledged the need for this particular pool, we want to work with the council to help as much as possible,” she said.
The council allocates money each year to maintain the pool during the winter months, this year presents an increase compared to previous years.
Cardinia’s outdoor pools are open during the summer months and are managed by Aligned Leisure.
