Speeder caught over the limit

Members of the Pakenham Police Station were operating a laser on Healesville-Kooweerup Road in Pakenham when they detected a Toyota Camry travelling at 118km in a 100km zone.

The members intercepted the vehicle and identified the driver as a 26-year-old male with a P2 probationary licence.

Members observed a mobile phone sitting in front of the speedometer, not in a cradle for maps and that there were no P plates displayed to the rear.

After receiving a positive preliminary breath test result, the male was taken back to Pakenham Police Station for an evidentiary breath test, which provided a reading of 0.169.

His licence was immediately suspended and the vehicle impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1445.

The male is to be charged on summons for speeding, mobile phone, no P plates attached to the rear of the vehicle and drink driving offences.
