‘Total shock’, panicked deer runs wild in autoshop

A Beaconsfield local business had a deer come crashing through their shop this week in a moment that would be hard to believe if not caught on camera.

On Monday 14 May, Beaconsfield AutoTech had the rare occasion to concern themselves with a beast on four legs rather than four wheels, after a large Sambar deer was spotted running around their area between Old Princes Highway and Woods Street, Beaconsfield.

Spooked, the lost deer weaved its way through the side of the business, through adjacent buildings and surrounding houses for a number of minutes.

After seemingly leaving the premise, AutoTech’s CCTV captured the deer reappearing, running across Old Princes Highway into the auto shop.

The hoofed creature struggled for traction on the slick shop floor as one of the interrupted mechanics watched on, bewildered.

The deer then entered the reception, using its large 200-plus kilo body to smash the glass door, where it swiftly departed toward Woods Street.

Owner of the family business, Darren Warne, said it left the staff in “total shock.”

“Still can’t believe it, if it wasn’t captured on camera, no one would believe it,” he said.

The door had 12mm safety glass installed for security, 4 to 5 times stronger than standard glass.

It’s doubtful an insurance company will have a policy relevant to this specific scenario, so Darren has to foot the bill.

Regardless, when posting the video publicly, AutoTech made clear that the deer appeared okay after the incident.

“It made its way down to the creek after and it seemed uninjured,” Darren said.

“We don’t think it hurt itself too drastically.”

Beaconsfield AutoTech is located on 12 Woods St, Beaconsfield and you can deploy their services by calling on 03 9707 3393.
