Police arrest four following Nepean Highway chase

Police have made four arrests following a high speed chase between Pakenham and Elwood during the early morning of 23 April.

Patrolling officers noticed an allegedly stolen Holden Astra on Bald Hill Road shortly after midnight, which was tracked by the air wing as it allegedly moved at high speeds along the Nepean Highway, as ground units from Operation Compass and Operation Trinity moved in to execute a coordinated response.

The car was abandoned on Glen Huntly Road in Elwood and the occupants quickly fled with police in pursuit.

Air Squad helicopters used thermal imaging to identify the fleeing suspects as they ran and attempted to hide in bushes, allowing police on foot to identify them and make arrests.

A 14-year-old boy from the St Kilda area, a 16-year-old boy from the Pakenham area, an 18-year-old Pakenham woman and a 17-year-old girl from the Pakenham area were arrested by Dog Squad officers nearby on Mitford Street.

They were taken into custody where they will be interviewed by detectives.

Police believe one offender remains outstanding and investigations are ongoing.
