Nominations for Stan Henwood Award open

Community members are encouraged to submit nominations to recognise local volunteers who have dedicated their time and efforts to improving and enriching the Cardinia Shire community.

The annual Stan Henwood Award honours the late Stan Henwood OAM for his lifetime contribution to the Tynong community and Cardinia Shire. The award recognises individuals who have made outstanding, long-term contributions to the local community.

The award’s namesake, the late Stan Henwood, was deeply involved in his hometown of Tynong. He served as a volunteer and member of multiple organisations, including the Tynong Hall Committee, the Tynong Recreation Reserve Committee, the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Tynong Tennis Club, the West Gippsland Tennis Association, Tynong Fire Brigade, and Tynong Progress Association.

Beyond the borders of Cardinia Shire, he received recognition from the Prime Minister for his service to sport and was awarded an Order of Australia for his contributions to the community.

Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jack Kowarzik acknowledged that this annual community award is a special way to recognise and celebrate volunteers in Cardinia Shire, particularly those who have dedicated significant time and energy to our community over the years.

“Our local volunteers contribute so much to our communities, making them strong, connected, and unique. The Stan Henwood Award aims to highlight and honour this work each year,” said Mayor Kowarzik.

“If you know someone who tirelessly volunteers and helps make Cardinia Shire a great place to live, please submit a nomination so their efforts and contributions can be recognised in 2025.”

Nominations for the 2025 Stan Henwood Award are open from 28 January until 10 March. The award winner will be announced and celebrated at Council’s National Volunteer Week reception in May 2025.
