Bunyip Newsletter sponsors four local student awards

Bunyip Community News has sponsored four primary school awards, two at St. Columba Catholic School and two at Bunyip Primary School, each valued at $250.

Daisy O’Loughlin and Sevanna Reid, both 12 and in year 6 at St. Columba Catholic Primary School were surprised and thrilled to receive their awards and had no idea of the monetary value which pleasantly delighted them.

Daisy is the recipient of the Alcott-Freeman Award. She has enjoyed sport, performing arts, netball and maths.

Sevanna was awarded the Mackilliop Social Justice Award and chose Writing, Sport, Maths and Netball as her favourite subjects.

Both agreed that it’s a wonderful, welcoming environment at the school and both have loved their time spent there.

The girls will put their prize money into building up their savings. Next year both girls will be attending Marist Sion in Warragul.

Mackenzie Straughair, 12, was awarded the 2024 Spirit Award and Ryder Turra, 11, was awarded the Quiet Achiever Award.

Both Year 6 students at Bunyip Primary School expressed their gratitude to the Bunyip Community News for sponsoring their awards.

Mackenzie Straughair who has been at the school since Year 3 said that science and the performing arts were her favourite subjects.

Her ambition is to become a teacher. She will put her award money into her bank account. Next year she will attend Chairo Christian School – Pakenham Campus.

Ryder Turra came to the school in year 4 and described it as an awesome, welcoming environment.

He will have many happy memories of his primary school years at Bunyip.

His favourite subjects have been sport, sport and more sport.

He barracks for the Richmond Tigers and his ambition is to one day be an AFL player, like his hero, Shai Bolton.

Next year Ryder will be attending Drouin Secondary College.
