Man charged after allegedly stealing car with child inside

Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after he allegedly stole a car with a child inside in Officer on Saturday, 16 November.

It is alleged the victim left his 5-year-old son inside his running car while he went inside a Princes Highway service station about 8.45am.

A man allegedly jumped behind the wheel and drove off with the child inside.

The alleged offender has driven the boy to Pakenham Police Station where he was promptly arrested and the boy safely reunited with his father.

Detectives have since charged the 42-year-old Officer man with theft of motor vehicle and child stealing.

He will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 28 November.
