Samantha Potter wins Officer Ward

Samantha-Jane Potter will be Officer’s voice on the council for the next four years, successfully winning her bid to become councillor of the fast-growing township.

The full count in the two-way race was concluded on Thursday 7 November with Potter winning comfortably on 67 percent of the vote.

New-candidate Potter received 4866 first preferences over her opponent Ron Malhotra’s 2319 votes.

Potter was one of the first to declare her intention to run in this election on International Women’s Day this year.

She takes over from former-Mayor Tammy Radford who opted not to run for re-election.

A worker in the disability sector and a professional singer, Potter became involved in the community ever since she moved to Officer with her husband and daughter a couple of years ago.

She is the founder of Cardinia Creative Community and a committee member of many organisations from the Cardinia Youth Network to the Southern Regional Disability Alliance Committee.

The results for Ranges, Toomuc and Westernport Wards are expected later today.
