Collin Ross looks likely to retain his seat in Cardinia Council’s Central Ward holding more than three quarters of the vote with a majority of the count done.

In Group A results revealed on Wednesday 30 October, Ross was on 77 per cent of first preferences in Central Ward with the majority of total votes already counted.

He sat on 4697 first preferences compared to his opponent Rekha Devdas who is on 1381 votes in the progressive tally.

With the battle in Henty Ward the most contested race across Cardinia Council’s election with five candidates in the ring, there was no certain result as preference distribution has not begun yet.

However, Liz Roberts has emerged as the front-runner, receiving 37.7 per cent or 2225 first preference votes out of the 5894 votes counted in Group A – which also represents a majority of votes counted.

Carol Ryan would be hoping preferences would be distributed her way to retain the seat, as she followed in second place with 1467 first preference votes.

Shoheli Sunjida followed behind in third place with 884 first preference votes, with Victorian Socialists candidate Stephanie Grigg receiving 673 first preference votes and Cecilia Rabecca Mphande receiving 645 first preference votes.

Progressive tallies of each ward will be revealed over the next week, with full results expected to be declared after Thursday 7 November.
