Exchange Student returns

Daryl Mcloughlan was first International Youth Exchange student hosted by the Rotary Club of Pakenham. Daryl, from Denman Island, British Columbia, Canada attended the Pakenham Secondary College in 1974, in year 12. He was back to attend the 50th anniversary reunion of his class and was able to attend a Rotary meeting.

He gave a wonderful address about his life and memories of his year in Pakenham, noting how much things had changed in the district. He also stressed the importance of his time here as an exchange student and how valuable the Rotary experience was.

Also in attendance was a fellow exchange student, Hope Haugen from Seattle, Washington State, USA who was with him in 1974 through a different exchange program, fellow student from Pakenham Catherine Oldenburger (Waldon) and host brother Steve Fletcher and his wife Karen. Steve is the son of then Rotarian Bill Fletcher.
