Strong wind conditions have continued to impact thousands of customers across Cardinia and Baw Baw, as Ausnet reports the high winds were the longest sustained weather event the network has faced in more than 10 years.

Since the start of the wild weather on Sunday 25 August, Ausnet has reported about 93,000 customer outages, with some customers impacted more than once.

According to a statement, Ausnet recognised the continuing and recurring outages were challenging for households and businesses, and assured the community their teams were endeavouring to restore power as quickly as possible.

The primary cause of the outages was damage to powerlines and poles caused by fallen trees, branches and debris.

Ausnet had more than 400 personnel and two helicopters in the impacted areas during Thursday 29 August.

As of late Thursday, there were about 2000 customers without power with Cardinia, Baw Baw and Yarra Ranges the most impacted LGAs and the largest single fault in Drouin with 523 customers off-supply.

While weather conditions were less severe on Thursday, Ausnet expected conditions to deteriorate overnight on Thursday and continue to impact the network through to Monday.

Customers should take care around any downed powerlines, and always assume they are live, even though they may be de-energised, and report to Ausnet’s faults and emergencies line on 13 17 99.
