Dog lovers in Officer and Cockatoo have received some good news, in the form of $700,000 worth of funding towards planned upgrades towards two of the areas’ dog parks.

The State Government announced on Friday 17 May Cardinia Council would received $400,000 towards upgrades at the Officer District Park and $300,000 towards upgrades at Alma Treloar Reserve in Cockatoo as part of the first round of the New and Upgraded Dog Parks Program.

The first round of this program focused on targeted grants to local councils for the delivery of six new dog parks and 13 dog park upgrades across Victoria, with a total funding commitment of $7.685 million.

The second round of the program would be a competitive grants process for local councils to design and deliver dog park projects in areas of greatest need.

The dog park locations were chosen through an application process with eligible councils, with construction expected to be completed for all projects by 2026.

The announcement also included a $480,000 allocation towards Casey Council for the construction of a new dog park at Essex Park Bush Reserve in Endeavour Hills.
