It was fortunate that usual peak traffic was missed last Thursday during Anzac Day after Racecourse Road had to be closed in the afternoon due a malfunction of the level crossing boom gates.
Highway Patrol were called out to the scene at around 4pm on Thursday 25 April to block traffic both ways through the level crossing after the boom gates were reported to be stuck in their downward position, failing to rise.
Department of Transport said a fault in the motor of the boom gates was found and crews were quickly dispatched to fix the issue and get the busy artery of Pakenham flowing again.
It is unknown when Racecourse Road was reopened through the intersection, crews worked on and monitored the boom gates until midnight.
