Cardinia Shire hopes to upkeep the local areas prized aquatic facilities with funding dedicated for their annual renewal apart of this year’s draft budget.
The council’s draft budget for the 2024-25 financial year was revealed last week and is currently in consultation, the big ticket item being the $21 million proposed for renewing the shire’s recreational and logistical infrastructure.
The council’s Manager Active and Connected Communities, Michael Casey has revealed that $1.8 million of that funding will be going to upgrade existing facilities including places like that Pakenham Outdoor Swimming Pool.
“This includes a proposed $1.8 million toward recreational, leisure and community facilities, including the renovation of the Pakenham Pool, as well as installing new cricket nets at Chandler Recreation Reserve, and upgrading lighting at the Nar Nar Goon Recreation Reserve,” Casey said.
The proposed upgrades to Pakenham Pool will be undertaken as part of Council’s annual Swimming Facilities Renewal Program, which involves minor upgrade and renewal works for Cardinia Shire’s four outdoor pools at Pakenham, Kooweerup, Garfield and Emerald Lake Park.
“The project scope and cost for the Pakenham Pool upgrade is yet to be determined, and is subject to the finalisation and adoption of the draft budget.”
The council is looking for feedback on the the draft budget which can be seen and commented on at cardinia.vic.gov.au/Budget2024-25.
The consultation period for the draft budget will end at 5pm on Friday 17 May.
