Unrestrained children and drunk driving in Officer

Police officers have impounded a Nissan Patrol, after finding the driver was more than three times over the blood alcohol limit officers and four out of the five children in the car were unrestrained.

Police pulled over the seven-seater 4WD was pulled over on Bridge Road just before 9am on Saturday 30 March, the last car of the booze bus site.

Police observed one child restrained in a booster seat, two children occupying a single seat unrestrained, another unrestrained in a booster seat and another lying flat on the floor behind the driver’s seat.

The 35-year-old Officer man returned an evidentiary breath test of .171.

Police subsequently impounded the car for 30 days at a cost of $895 and an immediate loss of licence, with the driver expected to be charged on summons with offences including reckless conduct endangering serious injury, drink driving, overloading, unrestrained and careless driving.

This impound formed part of Operation Nexus which is a statewide road policing operation held over the Easter break targeting impaired driving, speed, distraction, fatigue and seatbelt non-compliance in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria in an effort to drive down road trauma.
