Have a say on Cardinia’s new environmental policy

Planning schemes require changes over time to ensure that requirements continue to meet the needs of the local community, to achieve certain planning outcomes and to support new policies.

Cardinia Shire Council is proposing to introduce an Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESD) local policy into the Cardinia Shire Planning Scheme, known as Amendment C278card.

The Cardinia Planning Scheme will be amended to ensure that new developments achieve best practice in environmental sustainability from their design stage through to construction and operation.

Amendment C278card applies to all land in the shire, where a planning permit is required for development. The proposed ESD policy sets out application requirements and the scale of a project will ultimately influence the level of information required to be submitted with an application.

The amendment brings the council into alignment with 26 other councils who have an equivalent ESD local policy.

Persons with an interest Cardinia Planning Scheme amendment C278card can find more information and make a submission on the planning scheme amendment at the council’s website at cardinia.vic.gov.au/haveyoursay

Submissions on the planning scheme amendment must be received at Council by 5pm on Monday 8 April 2024.
