Buzzed locks floated through Emerald Secondary College’s courtyard on Friday 17 March as the school supported the Leukaemia Foundation.
Most of the school turned out at lunchtime to support the students and staff undergoing the World’s Greatest Shave.
Student Taesha Korsten was one of the first to have all her hair shaved away.
“It feels nice but it’s a bit weird still,” Taesha said afterwards.
“I was nervous to shave my head but it was the best chance to do it for a good cause.”
Wellbeing coordinator Felicity Wooden said the event was a great way for students and staff to be “able to do something for someone else that’s easy, but a very brave thing to do”.
“They can raise a lot of money and understand that their little action can make a huge difference in someone else’s life,” she said.
The school raised over $4500 for blood cancer research.
“It’s also bringing in the wider community, parents and families and carers, small businesses, nearby businesses that are wanting to donate,” English teacher Amy Donders said.
Those who participated received a free Emerald beanie or free Emerald cap.
