Officer Secondary recognised in state awards

Local schools from Officer and Berwick are being recognised for their exceptional efforts in education, being named finalists in an upcoming awards ceremony.

Principal of Berwick’s Kambrya College, Keith Perry is a finalist in the best secondary principal in the state category for the Victorian Education Excellence Awards.

Mr Perry is up for the Colin Simpson Outstanding Secondary Principal Award for being the “most influential principals Kambrya College has ever had“ according to colleagues.

His drive of collaboration, keen vision and embracing new innovative techniques has reportedly had significant impacts on delivering the best possible education for locals kids.

Mr Perry is among four principals who are up for the award.

Officer Secondary is among three schools up for Outstanding Provision for High-Ability Students – Secondary, an award acknowledging exceptional actions by schools to promote their highest-achievers.

In the last year Officer Secondary started their High Achiever Program which provides specific growth programs to outstanding students and has already shown promising results in students’ overall academic performance.

While accompanying this was the Academic Champions Program where high-achieving students can take a leading role in mentoring others and have a voice in determining the delivery of curriculum.

Officer Secondary and Kambrya College are among 47 finalists across all awards in the Victorian Education Excellence Awards.

The awards ceremony will be held on Friday 27 October.

A $25,000 grant will be given to Officer Secondary, if they are successful in winning the award, while Kambrya College could be given $20,000.
