Massive 10-hectare park one step closer

The construction of Officer District Park has reached a new milestone, with Cardinia Shire councillors announcing the appointment of a building developer for the project.

Warrandale Industries will take on stage one of the project, it was announced at a council meeting on Monday 18 September.

Council officers said Warrandale Industries was chosen as the successful tender due to its strong understanding of the project, a proven track record of delivering similar projects and the most competitive pricing.

The Scoresby-based company considers itself Victoria’s largest industry leader in commercial landscape construction and greenlife maintenance, responsible for signficant recreational projects including several precincts at Melbourne Zoo and open space projects across the state.

Officer District Park will be a 10-hectare multi-purpose community recreation space in the heart of Cardinia Shire.

Stage one of the project will provide a diverse range of amenities to the community including a level adventure playspace, off leash dog park, barbecue and picnic facilities, fitness equipment stations, extensive walking trails, public bathroom facilities, a hilltop lookout and car park.

Cardinia Shire Councillor Stephanie Davies said she was pleased to announced the successful tender for the project, following a lengthy planning process.

“I am extremely excited about this project… it is going to be an incredible asset to the whole of the shire and I look forward to attending the opening later next year,” Cr Davies said.

The project has been in development for several years and aims to commence construction in October 2023 with completion of stage one expected in late 2024.

All levels of government have contributed to funding for the $6.4 million project, including capital from the State Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund (GSF) and the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.

The Officer District Park was initiated by the council back in November 2018, when the council passed the project’s master plan.

Planned to be located along Lansell Avenue, just north of Princes Highway and east of St Clare’s Primary School, the project is set to serve the outdoor and recreational needs for the fast-growing area.
