Cardinia Shire Council has commissioned local arts organisation, Melbourne’s Murals, to deliver a public artwork at Comely Banks Pavilion in Officer.
The council is hosting a pop-up event on Saturday 1 July between 10am to 5pm at Comely Banks Pavilion to answer questions and gather feedback on the proposed design.
Community members are invited to come along to meet the artists and have their say on the colours, representation, and the sports included in the mural.
In line with the council’s Public Art Policy, the proposed artwork will be a series of sports themed murals on the exterior of the building, which will be painted onto the existing brick exterior, intending to bring a creative flair to the surrounds.
In November 2022, council put out an expression of interest seeking a suitable artist or arts group to deliver a public artwork for the Comely Banks Pavilion.
A selection panel reviewed the applications and narrowed it down to two groups, who then presented their developed concepts.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Tammy Radford is encouraging the local community to come along to the pop-up event at Comely Banks Pavilion on 1 July and have their say.
“Our public artworks help nurture a sense of community and shared history in Cardinia Shire and enhance public spaces.”
“We want to hear from you about this exciting new artwork in the community!” Mayor Radford said.
The new artwork at Comely Banks is expected to be completed and unveiled to the public by the end of 2023.
