A former Beaconhills College student turned teacher has been named a finalist in the 2023 Australian Education Awards Rising Star of the Year category.
Natasha Muller began a civil engineering degree at RMIT after graduating, but quickly realised her heart was set on being a teacher. She started teaching in 2018.
As head of the mathematics and numeracy faculty in middle school (Years 5 to 8), Ms Muller is a highly energetic and enthusiastic educator, whose firm belief is that every child has something great within them.
In her short teaching career, she has already held roles as the Junior School eLearning coordinator and coach specialising in STEAM Education and Technology in Teaching and Learning.
She is also a certified Apple Inc. educator.
The Australian Education Awards recognise the top-performing schools and educators for their outstanding achievements and transformative work that makes a profound difference to the lives of young people.
Ms Muller works diligently to ensure all students placed under her care have the same positive experience as a student at the college as she herself experienced.
“I believe it is our job as teachers to find their gift, scaffold their ability to use skills and inspire them to use their God-given talents,” she said.
Teaching colleague Clare Tuohy said Ms Muller, “lived and breathed the vision, mission and values of Beaconhills College”.
“Every task she undertakes, every interaction she has with colleagues, students and parents is informed and guided by the college motto, Let your light so shine,” Mrs Tuohy said.
“Natasha has high expectations of herself as well as her students, whether it be in a Mathematics class, tutor group or co-curricular activity.
“She is passionate about working with young people and sees her broad role not just as a Mathematics teacher, but also a mentor and guide in educating and developing the ‘whole’ person.”
The final winners for each category will be announced at a ceremony held on Friday 11 August at the Fullerton Hotel in Sydney.
