Embracing equity in local sporting clubs was a key focus of the 2023 ‘Change Our Game’ International Women’s Day Brunch.
Held on Sunday 5 March at Cardinia Beaconhills Golf Links, the event helped mark International Women’s Day.
Featured guest speakers included Australian Paralympian Rower Al Viney, Silvio Marinelli – local business person, sports enthusiast and director of DHM Talent Management and an active ally of women and girls in sport, Michael Randal the co-author of the book Victress – Australian Sports Women paving the way, local young athlete Claudia Eibl, and Rebecca Tilley who is a local sports person and director of Reach Gymnastics in Cardinia Shire.
Tiffany Cherry was also in attendance talking about her journey in sport and role as Golf Australia Head of Women and Girls.
The panel shared their stories, vulnerabilities, intersectionality, active allyship in sport and discussed how the community can create more inclusive and welcoming spaces and places for women and girls across participation and administration.
Participants heard about the Cardinia Shire Women and Girls Sport and Participation Network, and had the opportunity to connect with other like-minded people, and celebrate women and girls in sport and active recreation.
The event also connected to broader work being done in the space within Cardinia Shire Council.
At the end of the event, participants completed pledges to support women and girls in sport and active recreation and embrace equity.
