Passengers rescued

Passengers on a V/Line bus had to be rescued after the coach became stuck in a ditch in Garfield Tuesday night, 24 January.

Seven CFA units from Bunyip, Nar Nar Goon and Tynong, as well as Pakenham SES, police and ambulance were called to Railway Avenue/Jefferson Road around 7.30pm to reports a bus was stuck in a ditch or gutter on the side of the road and couldn’t open its doors to let people off.

A CFA spokesperson said crews found a bus that had slid off the road into a small ditch. Fourteen passengers were on board and rescued safely.

A Pakenham SES spokesperson said the bus was bogged at about a 30-degree angle and rescue crews gained access via the emergency window.

Passengers had to exit via the window and a ladder, they said.

A spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria said paramedics were called to the incident but no emergency treatment or transport was required.
