Labor pulls out of race for Narracan

Wayne Farnham is expected to win the seat of Narracan.

The Labor Party has pulled out of the race for the seat of Narracan.

Justin Seddon, who was the party’s candidate for the seat, was disappointed to find out Labor had decided not to contest the supplementary election, according to reports.

Labor received 35.5 per cent of the primary votes in the 2018 election for Narracan.

The poll for the seat was deferred five days out from election day when Nationals candidate Shaun Gilchrist died unexpectedly.

It was later revealed he was due in the County Court for sexual offences, with a trial date set for June 2023.

The Liberals hold the seat on a strong margin and are expected to retain it, with candidate Wayne Farnham sitting in the party room in December 2022.

If successful, it would give the Coalition 28 Lower House seats – one more than it won four years ago.

It comes after Victorian Liberal leader John Pesutto unveiled his new-look shadow cabinet after the Coalition suffered another crushing election loss to Labor.
