The townships of Pakenham and Officer have paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Federal La Trobe MP Jason Wood was in Officer on Sunday 4 December for a tree planting ceremony at the Officer Public Hall.
Dream Harmony was one of the recipients of $15.1 million of grant funding which was made available to eligible groups for community tree planting events.
“It was a privilege to plant a tree in honour of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II at Officer Public Hall,” said La Trobe MP Jason Wood.
“Her Majesty dedicated her life to serving her people and it was wonderful to commemorate The Queen being the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service.”
Cardinia Shire councillor Carol Ryan and vice-president of the Young Monarchist League attended the event.
“I look forward to seeing the trees and rose bushes planted flourish,” Mr Wood said.
Founder and president of Dream Harmony, Shoheli Sunjida said the event was a great opportunity to integrate new residents in the shire.
“Cardinia Shire is one of the fastest growing areas in Melbourne and there has been an influx of people from many cultural backgrounds settling in the shire,” Ms Sunjida said.
“Dream Harmony are proud recipients of this grant and we are only too happy to celebrate the life and commitment of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by planting trees and roses in her honour,” Ms Sunjida said.
Mr Wood also made the trip to Pakenham on Tuesday 6 December to announce funding for another planting trees for the Queen’s Jubilee project.
He was joined by Cardinia Shire mayor Tammy Radford, deputy mayor Jack Kowarzik, and councillor Collin Ross.
The Pakenham Rotary Club was also in attendance to support the event.
