Liberal candidate for Pakenham David Farrelly has pledged $250,000 to the Pakenham Cricket Club if successful in the upcoming election.

The commitment would provide the area’s growing cricket community with new modern training pitch surfaces, new retractable training nets and associated works at Toomuc Reserve to help make facilities safe and reliable for the club and wider community.

“I’m a big cricket fan, and as we watch the T20 World Cup at the moment we can see the difference that first-class facilities can make for a player and a team, and I want all our clubs to be the very best that can be,” Mr Farrelly said.

“I’ll always support groups like the Pakenham Cricket Club and I’m very proud to be working together with the team to improve their facilities and help to boost participation.”

Mr Farrelly said the cricket club needs to be supported so they can keep up with the demand in the area.

The Liberal candidate also highlighted the importance for sport on people’s mental and physical wellbeing.

“Growing communities deserve to be well catered for, and sporting clubs like the Lions help our community in many ways other than just sport,” Mr Farrelly said.

“Strong community connections in clubs help our physical and mental health, especially in the younger members.”
