Intersection upgrades complete

Construction teams have removed roundabouts at two major intersections on the Western Port Highway.

Traffic lights have replaced the roundabouts at the Ballarto Road and Cranbourne-Frankston Road intersections with the highway, following the completion of a major construction blitz that saw 40,000 tonnes of crushed rock and 26,000 tonnes of new asphalt laid, and new walking and cycling paths created.

The new traffic light intersections will also allow sequencing of traffic lights along the 6km stretch of Western Port Highway between Thompsons Road and Cranbourne-Frankston Road – providing more reliable journeys for locals and the broader community, the State Government said.

Carrum MP Sonya Kilkenny said drivers would see the benefits of the upgrades.

“This vital upgrade will see improved travel times and safer conditions for the 25,000 motorists who use Western Port Highway every day,” Ms Kilkenny said.

Preparatory works are also underway at the Hall, Evans and Cranbourne-Frankston Roads intersection ahead of major construction kicking off at the end of the year.

These works will include converting the roundabouts at McCormicks Road and Western Port Highway with traffic signals, along with upgrading the intersection of Hall, Evans and Cranbourne-Frankston Roads into one conventional signalised cross intersection.
