Nationals pledge extra funds if elected

The Nationals and Liberals have announced they will invest $125 million into the emergency health service if successful at the upcoming State Election.

The funding would be reprioritised from the $35 billion for the Cheltenham to Box Hill rail line.

“Every Victorian deserves to have confidence that when they dial Triple-Zero, someone will answer their call and help will be on the way,” Nationals MP for Eastern Victoria Melina Bath said.

“It’s critical to get Triple-Zero working again, restore community confidence and ensure help will be there in an emergency.”

A recent report from the Independent Inspector General for Emergency Management confirmed 33 Victorians died due to triple zero’s short comings.

The IGEM report also found 16 per cent of staff had been trained across multiple services and the absence of common IT software contributed to poor outcomes.

“The Triple Zero crisis has been incredibly distressing for so many families across Victoria,” Nationals candidate for Bass Brett Tessari said.

“It’s not unreasonable to expect that your call to emergency services is answered and an ambulance is dispatched when you need it.”

The additional funding will be used to upgrade all IT systems and a new back-up system.

It will also facilitate multiple service training for 50 per cent of call taking and dispatch staff, and deliver ongoing funding that has been requested since 2015.
