Council to assess local roads

A sealed and unsealed road condition assessment to improve the renewal and maintenance programming, connectivity, mobility and safety of Cardinia Shire’s road networks will begin shortly.

The inspection will assess 840km of sealed roads and 860km of unsealed roads across Cardinia Shire.

Cardinia Shire Council’s asset inspection contractor will photograph and assess the community’s roads to enable more effective road management and maintenance.

The inspection will begin on Monday 19 September and take approximately four weeks to complete.

Residents may observe camera equipped, transporter-style inspection vehicles travelling on local roads during this time.

When following these vehicles on the roads, the council has asked that drivers leave a space of a full car length to provide the rear cameras with a clear view of the road surface, where possible.

The project will support several of the council’s key road strategies, including its Road Management Plan, Road Safety Strategy and its Pedestrian and Bicycle Strategy, and will help inform future budget processes.

Council thanked residents for their assistance and said they were committed to innovation and data driven decision making.
