Cardinia Shire Council is calling on passionate skaters and BMX and scooter riders to have their say on the Worrell Reserve youth plaza and skate park in Emerald.
Council allocated $150,000 to undertake the detailed design while the State Government announced $1 million towards the project subject to a funding agreement application by council.
The Worrell Recreation Reserve is a key open space centrally located in the Emerald township.
Following the endorsement of the masterplan in June 2020, the next stage is the design and then implementation of the youth plaza and skate park as a result of the State Government funding announcement.
The Worrell Reserve youth plaza and skate park would provide the community with a family-friendly multi-use recreation space for skateboarding, BMX, and scooter riding, the council said.
“This is your chance to help shape the new youth plaza and skate park to support increased use and overall enjoyment of the park by locals,” Cardinia Shire Mayor Cr Jeff Springfield said.
“We want to hear what you would like to see included in the project and hear about how you would use it into the future. This information will be key to developing the draft concept plans for the new youth plaza and skate park.
“This project will improve access to sporting and social recreation opportunities for the children and young people of Emerald as well as the surrounding Hills community.
“The Emerald community, through the support of key community groups, has been instrumental in seeking local and State Government funding to bring forward the much-anticipated youth plaza and skate park element of the masterplan.”
Consultation closes on Sunday 14 August, 2022.
Council will conduct further community engagement as the project progresses and will come back to the community to seek feedback on the proposed concept design once it has been created.
